I'm optimistic that we will get an English translation one day, there are a few good people working on it. Privately...not from DS.
Of course you will still need a DVD of the Russian version. There were three or four translations for STALKER:Call of Pripyat withing a month of the Russian/German/Polish release. One of them, translated line by line, is almost perfect imo. And since then a community based translation is supposed to be even better. As well as text, there are files of English voice acting included with the Polish version. Could be a big marketing error by GSC in delaying the Western release for so long, many people have bought the Russian version, upgraded it, and may not bother to buy the English version. |

Wasn't STALKER: Call of Pripyat not released in English yet? Did they have problems because STALKER: Clear Sky was even more full of bugs that the original game? Is that why Deep Shadows can't find publisher for an English release, because Boiling Point was so buggy?

Is that why Deep Shadows can't find publisher for an English release, because Boiling Point was so buggy? CoP will be released in English version in FEB 2010. It is free of bugs and plays very smoothly. After all those years of using the same game engine, GSC have got it right. RPG + Free Roam + Faction System = a nightmare for programmers. CoP has a VERY cut down faction system, which is probably one of the reasons it plays so well compared to Clear Sky. DS had plenty of time to sort the bugs in White Gold, but a lot of discussion on the Russian forums was still about bugs in that game. Come to that, the Boiling Point patch (~200Mb) did a pretty good job fixing most of its bugs. So I don't think it was bugs that frightened off a Western publisher. More like the 'bottom line'. And with all the silence from DS, we may never know! |

Bottom line means money. If publishers thought they could make money from White Gold, it would have been published a year ago, but apparently noone believes it would sell in the rest of the world outside Russia.
Which sucks. If the game is good and reviews well, it would at least sell enough to be profitable. The Precursors looks good enough, that's for sure. |

I agree, they could at least have tried online publishing like Direct2Drive, Steam or Impulse. Anyway, thanks to mrhtml16 for doing a translation right now. Because Nick-ol-teen is doing the same for "Precursors", maybe we could make the menus and other basic items look similar. Thus said: - I would remove "options" from "Game options" and "Video options" because of redundancy. - In "Game" I would use "Detail level" and exchange "Normal" with "Medium". - In "Video" I think "Full-screen mode" should better be just "Fullscreen" in one word. - In "Audio" the first option should be "Speaker type", the second "Effects volume" and the third "Voice volume". Unless the last one is for dialogues only and not other voices like in cutscenes. - I think the "Game saved..." message is not translated yet and what about "Game loading..."? |

Update: I managed to create English loading screens and menu backgrounds for both "The Precursors" and "White Gold" by merging graphics from DeepShadow trailers into the existing videos. The animation of the menu background is lost and I also didn't bother with the additional animations of "The Precursors", but otherwise they look fine to me. Download them from http://www.filefront.com/15483901/DeepShadows.zip and tell me what you think! Now if someone would provides me with a translation of the video cutscenes I will try to add subtitles to the videos...
How it is going along mrhtml16? Have you thought about first translating all the quest logs so people can play the game already? Because the dialogues and radio messages will take much more time. |

I updated the English menu screen for "White Gold" to show a darker frame. The improved file is here:

I improved the menu screen a bit more and uploaded it here while removing the older versions:
http://www.filefront.com/15506803/DeepShadows.zip I also figured out how to add subtitles to the intro movie, so please, someone tell me what is spoken (and written in the newspapers). There must be some Russians lurking ;)! You find the video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hpyJiKfsdXw Furthermore I looked a bit into the already translated stuff of mrhtml16 and would like to suggest the following changes for the character information window: - Inventory: Classes should be All, Weapons, Other and Missions. - Upgrade screen: It should be "Weapons for upgrade". - Map: Is this country really called "Covumbia" or should it be "Columbia"? - Profile: There is a typo in "Burglar" and "Safe cracker" is used twice. I would also recommend "Choose Perk" instead of "Install Perk". - Notebook: I would call the players entries: "Saul Meyers" and not "notebook" again. |

Is this still alive? I really hope it is. This is the best hope for a English language Xenus 2.

Is this still alive? I really hope it is. Hello mrhtml16, are you still on it? If not I'll recommend that you or someone goes the road that myers90 explained in this very thread which means taking the hidden English text out of the game files and just copy&paste it over into the Russian version. I'm doing this right now for The Precursors and while it's tedious it's easy compared to actually translating the text. You could start from my latest version which you can find here: http://www.filefront.com/15721007/wguevp05.zip |
